Hawaiian Shaved Ice
Again Jason Brown of Love Hot Dog Co. has brought us another addition that will make you some mo' money! Jason added shaved ice to his concession trailer along with 44 different flavors.
"It's easier than doing lemonade and much better profit." - Jason Brown
Listen in to the tips he gave on this. Oh and the profit! $3.50 sale nets him about $3.25 in profit. You really don't have to sell many of those to make a great day a tremendous day.

VENDOR TIP!
Pete and Autumn from Dogs on the Run emailed me while I was typing in all the show notes above with this handy tip.
tip for ya... our hot dog sled we took some black fuel line in one inch pieces and cut a line through it so it snaps onto the sled. we put 4 of these on it and now it doesnt slide or scratch the cart.
Great advice and I think I will do this today.

NOW WHAT?
I know many of you joined the MFVA, in part, to get discounts at store.benscarts.com. Nothings changed there. Your special pricing will remain forever at BensCarts.com. I created a group discount called: Hot Dog Mafia and added anyone that was already registered at BensCarts for the special pricing - over to the new discounts. So for you, nothing changed.
NOTHING has changed with your membership at the MFVA. All I've done is given existing MFVA members a way to still get the discounts on the store.benscarts.com site. You lose nothing.
WHY DON'T YOU START A GROUP?
I think it would be great if a few of you started an association for street food vendors. I know there exists some already but there needs to be one core group. These splinter groups started because of enormous egos and testosterone are futile. They serve only to split the voice that we need as a whole.
Maybe one day, someone will begin a great group, one that can grow and become an icon for us vendors. If there ever is one AND AFTER IT HAS GOTTEN UP AND RUNNING, I would consider taking part - helping to expand it and getting the word out. So keep that in mind if you have the inclination.

PRICING
Greg asks: Ben, For just a dog with ketchup, mustard, onions and relish I charge $2.50. My cost is .31 for the berks hot dog, .25 for the potato bun and .25 for condiments, napkin, foil sheet and propane. I am told by my customers I charge too much. I get a soda or .34 and sell it for $1 and chips I get for .24 and sell for .75. What should the best average mark up. Currently, I am at 3.00. I cant do your special, 2 dogs, chips and a drink for $5, I charge $6. I charge 2.50 for a dog with kraut and 3.00 for a chili and cheese dog. I am ready to tell these low ball, poor broke old people and food stamp recipients to drive down to McDonalds. Either get what I have to get to operate and make a little money or sell the rig! HELP! I just worked a weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the cold, snow flurries and wind that broke my umbrella for a lousy 132.00 in total sales......Profit? LMAO!
